female artists to enter the commercial art world—a huge accomplishment for her time.
Catharina’s focus on painting for commercial postcards, detracted from her recognition as a "fine" artist. Sadly, many of her original paintings were destroyed during the war. However, it’s thanks to her work on postcards that her art has become so iconic today, continuing to inspire creators like us.
